"I never travel without my diary. I should always have something sensational to read in the train." - Oscar Wilde
Oscar and I, we think alike. I ask myself sometimes, why do I keep a journal? Who'd want to read it? Or more importantly, who would I want to read it or not read it?
Joan Didion says in her essay, On Keeping a Notebook, it is to "remember what it was to be me." That is enough justification and explanation for me to continue my writings and staplings, diligently adding to the Rubbermaid full of my thoughts which is currently housed in a friend's basement in Portland.
One day, I will pull them out, sifting through words of a life worth living. Remembering what it was like to be me.
